My friend Chris repeatedly moaned that if he went back to school to finish his degree he'd be 40 by the time he graduated. His girlfriend Stephanie finally said, "Well, you're gonna be 40 anyway!" Soon after that, he hopped off the fence, registered for classes, and now is the graphic designer he had dreamed of becoming.
Try applying that logic to just about any goal. "If I only lose 1 lb a week, it'll take me 2 and a half months to lose 10 lbs!!" Well, unless you're crushed by an anvil or the world explodes, you'll probably still be around in 10 weeks. You could be 10 lb lighter, or not. Hell, you could even be another 10 lb heavier. Who knows. But if you think that your success is so out of reach because it will take so long to get there, just focus on one day at a time. Today you can eat healthier. You can walk to work. You can do some pilates while watching TV. Or not.
Time is a precious commodity. How you spend it is up to you.
What's your short term goal for today? It doesn't even have to be fitness related. My first goal was to get another post up. Next is to work on one of my poorly neglected sewing projects. . .good luck, ya'll!
