Every bit helps

Sometimes the events around the world can be so devastating that we feel overwhelmed and wonder "what can I possibly do to help?!" Well, leave it to clever Portlanders to come up with some ways we can make a difference. In response to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, here are a few ways to we all can help.

The fabulous folks over at RunOregon are putting on a run at Forest Park this Saturday March 26th, at 9am. The funds raised will go to the American Red Cross to help with recovery efforts. All the details are on their RunOregon Facebook page.

A couple of local crafty goddesses have started a Quilts for Quake Survivors drive. I found out about this great effort from my favorite favorite fabric store, Cool Cottons.

Lastly, if you don't can't make to the run or have the time to help with quilt blocks, one of my favorite charities, that does amazing work right here in Portland and abroad, is Mercy Corps. They even have a page to help you start your own fundraiser project. How awesome is that!? Medical Teams International is another organization that I think does amazing work.

A run, a block of fabric, a small donation that fits your budget may almost seem like too small of a deal to make a difference. But if a large group of people make a lot of small efforts it is a big deal!

We can do no great things, only small things with great love. ~Mother Teresa
