Recipe: Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

Christa says she's still digging the peanut-butter-in-your-oatmeal idea I mentioned to her awhile back. Which made me think, we need a new oatmeal recipe! Here's a great way to get a healthier version of cinnamon-apple oatmeal flavor without all the sugar/artificial ingredients that are in those little packets. This is a single serving, but you could do a bulk batch on the stove top and eat it over a few days.

1/2 cup rolled oats
1 cup water
3 T non-sweetened apple sauce
1/4-1/2 t cinnamon
pinch of salt (optional)
1 t maple syrup
1/4 cup of chopped apple
palm full of nuts, like pecans or walnuts
  1. Cook up your oats and water. You can boil up your oats, or put them in large bowl and microwave them for 2 minutes.
  2. add the sauce, cinnamon, and salt. Mix it up.
  3. top with apples, nuts and syrup
  4. yumm!
I made also this with Emily's Pear Sauce. Worked great! I've also just skipped the apple chunks and ate an apple later in the day. If you're used to the super sugary stuff in the packets this will taste different. But taste it! It tastes like the real stuff that the artificial flavors in the packets are trying to mimic. Go figure!

I also like to added fresh ginger that I mash in my mortar and pestle. yummm!
