We talked about how much "stuff" America imports. Not stuff we actually need. Just trinkets and crap that we think we want, we buy and then throw away...
If there's a silver lining to the current economic abyss, maybe it's that we'll think before we buy. Do I need this? Who made it and how'd it get here before me? Will it last? Can it be used for another purpose? The silver lining being that while America's economy is based on consuming, if we stop mindless buying stuff it'll be good for the environment, which is good enough for me!
The Story of Stuff sums it it perfectly. (Kind of a long video but well worth watching.)
OK, just wanted to share.
